Is it normal for it to hurt for a bit when the baby latches on? The nipple itself is not sore anymore but it’s almost like when he latches on the suction itself causes pain for about the first 20 to 30 seconds. I’m sure he is latched on correctly and I don’t think I have any blocked ducts or anything. The book I have says that breastfeeding should not hurt at all if I am doing it correctly! Any suggestions?

I am not against breast feeding my child after he is born, but I am also not very comfortable with it either.
I was just wondering if it is possible to pump after my baby is born and feed him my breast milk from a bottle instead of from my actual breast.
If it is not, I will suck it up and feed him the regular way. I will not let my discomfort with breast feeding deprive my child of my milk.
(ps. no rude or sarcastic comments please. If you feel the need to be a jerk, take it somewhere else)

I plan to breast-feed, and if God willing, I hope to have a natural birth. I’d like to initiate breast-feeding as soon as the baby has been wiped down and suctioned, and all of that other important stuff. I don’t want my baby to have nipple confusion. So basically, I don’t get it, why does some literature state to be sure pack your breast pump in your hospital bag? Will my milk come in shortly after I give birth? Will I be able to pump 2 ounces of colostrum?

i heard it hurts to breastfeed, im so scared that when i go to breastfeed my baby the first time that he will latch on and its going to surprise me and i will jerk him away or something,
im 38 wks pregnant and maybe this is just me having the jitters about the b-day approaching…but the breastfeeding thing is actually making me nervous for some reason…i have always wanted to breastfeed my baby, its just a beautiful thing, but im having alittle anxiety
maybe you can help me to understand what to expect from it…
i have been reading a breastfeeding book, but it doesnt mention so much about it hurting. they did say it feel like pins and needles when you milk lets down.

I am a mommy to a 2yr old girl, who was formula fed. I am also almost 23 weeks with a baby boy that I 100% plan on nursing. I, unfortunately, don’t have a lot of support in that area (minus my husband, of course) since both my mom, and MIL, never attempted breastfeeding, and my mom is of the mind that “if it doesn’t work out, oh well. I think you’re going to be worried about how much he’s eating anyway, so maybe just pumping and using bottles is the way to go”……something I hear from her on a regular basis.
Anyway, I got this amazing breastfeeding book “So That’s What They’re For”, and when I got to the chapter of problems, I seem to have the first two mentioned!! After doing the flat/inverted nipple test, is seems I have pretty flat nipples…I had no idea..LOL! So, now I’m lookinh at if I should wear breast shells, or just talk about it at my breastfeeding class when I get farther along.
Second one was if your child is tongue-tied…which my husband and toddler are. It even effected my daughter’s latch on a regular bottle when she was first born. Luckily, it doesn’t seem to be effecting her speech, but it’s something that will be looked at at her 3yr check-up. So, there’s a good chance this child will have the same thing, right?
These are in no way excuses, as I am still fully committed to nursing, it’s just one more thing I am stressed about. I guess my question would be, should I just wait until baby is actually here and then get some help if needed, or should I already start the process? I AM going to take a breastfeeding class my doctor’s office does when I hit my third trimester, so should I just wait until then?
Anyone successfully breastfeed with these problems? Seriously, any advice/encouragement would be nice.

I mean how long does it take to produce another feeding… My son breast feeds every hour and I have quite a busy schedule and would like to save some milk in the freezer but I dont want to pump and then not be able to feed him when he’s hungry. So I guess what I really want to ask is How long does it take for my boobs to replace whats being taken out of them.

I had my baby 4 months ago and stopped breast feeding and pumping about a month ago. Now, she wont take my breast at all but I am starting to pump again. When I started to pump the flow was like the first time after I had her. . real slow and barely anything. Will milk production get better after I get used to pumping again? Advice anyone?

This is something I’ve wondered for a while, for no particular reason. I vaguely remember reading about it in some book back in my early teens, and it resurfaced recently. I don’t think this thought will leave me alone until I have a legitimate answer.
