I’m a new mom and have been weaning my 7 week old from breastfeeding, though I continue to pump. It’s not going well…he cries and shrieks because he wants to latch on to my breast. Any advice, helpful books, websites and tips from your own experiences would be greatly apreciated. Thanks!
I am 33 weeks with baby #3. I really want to breast feed my daughter this time! With my first I breast fed my son right away and then both of us developed fevers and he was given a bottle in nursery so he wouldn’t latch on anymore after that. With my 2nd I had a lot of trouble from the beginning getting her to latch on and didn’t have a lot of support so I gave up pretty quickly with her. I know now I should’ve stuck with it longer and it would’ve gotten better. I’m just wondering if I should invest in breast pump just in case she doesn’t latch on correctly or plan to strictly nurse from the breast? And if anyone has had success with breast feeding after not having been successful on previous attempts?
Hey ladies
So I have just purchased a Tomme Tippe Microwave steriliser, a tomme tippe breast pump and some bottles.
I thought as the microwave one is less expensive then the electric I may as well get that one as surely I wont be using it that much if breast feeding.
And when I do go on to formula it will still be good for then too right?
Or are the microwave ones not that great? please tell me what you think? They hold 4 and the electric 6 bottles.
Also what else do I need for breast feeding? I have the above along with breast pads, I need a nursing bra. What about a bottle warmer and the bottle warmer bags, do I need any of those?
Also where do you get the Tomme Tippe Lids from to store the breast milk in the bottles? Anyone know?
Any help or advice would be great, first time Mummy to be Lol!
Thanks so Much
XxXx
im about to have a little boy and me and the father arent together but he still is going to be in our sons life. well im planning on breast feeding and they said for the first at least 8 weeks you are only suppose to feed from the nipple but i want him to be able to take him over night. is there anyway i can pump from the very beginning instead of doing it by nipple or is there anyway he can take him overnight before 8 weeks? i need yalls opinions thanks
My story………..
My son was born early and was jaundiced
He had to go under grow lamps and was very weak and sleepy
I tried to breastfeed in hospital etensively but he wouldnt latch and when he did he wouldnt suck
I had to hand express and feed with a syringe as he wouldnt eat from me and i was so against formula
He slept all the time and we started using an electric breast pump . after 4 days and nights in the hospital working with a lactation consultant she basically said there is nothing else she could do for me and that i will just have to give up on getting him onto the breast at this time
His mouth was so small and my breasts are very big and he couldt get his mouth round my nipples properly
In hospital he slept basically the whole time which they put down to the jaundice and me and my partner spent around 30 to 60 minutes waking him each time he had to feed
So i expressed my milk and feed it to him via bottle when we got home
Well i have been going to a parenting centre and lactation consultants to learn how to breastfeed and had to use a nipple shield as he wouldnt suck or latch without one
Even with the shield more milk gets on me and him than in his belly
But i started losing milk supply as there isnt as much stimulation with the pump or nipple shields when used only and there isnt any stimulation from a babys mouth
I was only getting about 60 ml at each pump and he was eating about 100 ml per feed
I started to run out of my supply of frozen breast milk and did absolutely everything to increase supply
Well i was told that i needed to supplement his feeds with formula which i was not happy about but what else could i do
I didnt know what else to do and was planning to feed until at least he was one even if i had to pump the whole time
I started using the lactation herb fenugreek and that helped my supply but i wasnt getting much hind milk and my son still refsed to suck from me
I started to get sick and didnt know why and then last friday i was sent to hospital and had to have a D and C as they found that they had left placenta in me and was infected
Since coming home i gave up on breastfeeding for a day and then i realised that i shouldnt give up and i had real determination i finally got my son to suck from me for 7 sucks i wasSOOOO happy
So i put him on constantly and the only way i can get him to feed off me is his first feed of the day in the morning and he and i lay in bed and feed laying down
It has been a battle but it is starting to work i feed him from the breast every morning but cant in the day unless i am at home and we can lay down lol
My son is too dependant on the full feeling that he gets from the formula now so even after feeding from me will take a whole bottle after lol biut some breastmilk is better than none
He is now having one or two feeds from the breast a day and 4-5 bottles of formula
i have just started taking the mini pill and my mother in law constantly asks if me and my partner are being careful like its her business anyhow
finally i said i am on the mini pill and she said that i will be pregnant within the week and to start the real pill
well i said i cant as it can dry up my milk and she wen on about how she was able to breastfeed two children on the real pill and that i should just quit breastfeeding now as there is no point anymore that he is only feeding twice a day
i think that a little breast milk is better than none at all
am i wrong here
i try to ignore her but it agravates me
my son is 7 weeks old now and have got him back to two feeds a day from my breast
what do i do my partner always says dont worry bout it but i stil do
I am planning on breast feeding and at some point if I need to express milk, which breast pump would be better to get? An electronic one or a manual one and why? Please give me some advice.
I am really wanting to breast feed my child however I am terrified at the same time. I don’t want it to hurt plus I am not one that once to go into public and put my boob out and start feeding. I am very private when it comes to things like that. Is it normal to only breast feed at home and pump the rest of the time?? If so can you give me advice on it?
I have a 10 week old baby girl and breastfeeding full time, i start playing netball again tonight and just wonder what i should do? she use to feed every 2-3 hours but i read i should give it to her when she wants it! i’m so confused what to do, books tell you one thing, doctors say one thing midwives say another and my mum tells me another? my mum says the reason why she needs both breasts at one feed is cause i dont have enough milk, and should offer formula after feeds. she put on 300 grams last week. Should i feed my baby just before netball so she wont need a feed while playing? or take formula with me? she feeds pretty well put sometimes she pulls away and then wants more but pulls away again around the end of a feed, whys that???
I dont get why they’re so supersistious with this breast milk getting on things. Is there a story behind this hmong breast milk thing? They so said it was dangerous for men bcause it has powerful whatever stuff against man, but i rubbed it on myhusband for the fun of it. Can someone tell me the reason please? If you’re not hmong or you dont know what a hmong person is please dont add a comment like what is hmong or write something dumb?
Hi Ladies,
I’m 28weeks pregnant & in my first trimester my cup size went from DD to F (professionally fitted & sized). I was reading my pregnancy book last night & they mentioned that for every gram of breast tissue produces 1-2g of milk!
So my questions:
1/ Does the size of your breasts determine the quantity of milk?
2/ Would this be a problem in my case ie too much?
3/ Would you suggest I purchase a breast pump & please tell me why & when the use of a breast pump is required.
Lastly, a friend of mine warned not to give a baby a bottle should you want to continue breast feeding as once the baby takes the bottle & apparently it’s alot easier for them they won’t want to go back to breast feeding, is this correct?
Thank you!
