Breast Pump Question???

Hi mommies!
Do you recommend a certain breast pump brand?
I plan on buying a new one because I plan on breast feeding and pumping too!
I wasn’t sure if one brand worked better than another.
thanks!

I have the Ameda Purely Yours electric breast pump and what makes it so much better than other breast pumps for me is that it keeps the mil completely separate from the motor so you don’t have to worry about back flow into the mechanical parts of the pump. It’s super easy to use and to sterilize. I use it 3 times, everyday(working full time) and breastfeed when I’m with my 3 month old. Another thing that you should look for, no matter which pump you decide to use, is how fast it cycles through pumps. You want the pump that the cycle speed matches the speed in which your baby suckles the breast the most. It should mimic your baby as much as possible. You should try a few, but know that with Ameda you will definitely get quality for you money.

I pump exclusively and have had no decrease in my supply since I had to start doing that (approx. 6 weeks ago). I use the Medela Pump In Style Advanced (double pump) and absolutely love it. I would definitely recommend it.
(Unless absolutely necessary, make sure that breastfeeding is well established before you start pumping, when your baby is 4-6 weeks old.)

If you’re going to pump a lot, either spend a lot of money on an expensive one, or use a manual one. I went through 5 different ones and I finally settled on the Lansinoh manual one. It was great, lasted the longest and is paced away for my next baby. It was about $50 but it came with lots of extra stuff, and I picked one up at Walmart for my sister in law on clearence for $10. That made me mad lol, but It is awesome!
I tried the First years electric, it sucked the milk back into the motor, same with the Medela mini electric one, and the Gerber electic one also did the same thing. THe first years manual one didn’t even suck out any milk, and I had LOTS there.
Sometimes different ones work better for different people, but my sister in law had no problem with this one either until she decided that she was only going to pump instead of nurse and her milk dried up, but I don’t beleive that has anything to do with the pump.
If you can’t find it at the store try ordering it online. I’m telling you it’s great!

I bought an evenflo..worked great…everyone kept telling me it would hurt and be uncomfortable…but it was fine. I have to agree with some of the other moms here though. I’m a stay at home mom so I’ve only pumped a total of five times. If my husband and I got out to dinner and leave our son with his grandma or his nana we just let him have one meal of formula and as soon as I get home I feed him. We him over night with grandparents for our anniversary and I pumped throughout the night (he was like 3 months at the time) to relieve myself of engorgment, but really…I’ve found I rarely use my pump because I am with our son 24/7 and it’s so much easier just to nurse straight from the breast.

I thought I was going to pump too. but honestly, unless you plan on going back to work, its not necessary.
mine is an evenflo one, cost about 40 bucks and sucks. or doesnt. lol. I recommend to get a good hospital grade one, otherwise you arent going to use it

for a manual pump I recommend Medela Harmony. Avent did not work for me at all, but with Medela I get very fast let down and can pump both sides in ten minutes or less and usually get between 2-4 ounces per side. Plus all medela products are BPA (avent is not).

I bought Ameda Purely yours and it has been very helpful and is a great pump. I breastfeed during the day and pump as well to have a few bottle for the night time so my husband can help me feed him. My newborn also gets very fussy at night and sometime he won’t take my breast. The pump has been a life saver.

I have a Medela Manual and it works really well. I’ve also heard that Avent is a good brand to buy.
I don’t suggest Gerber. I bought one, and it didn’t work at all. It was just a waste of money, and after speaking to my lactation consultant about it, she told me that a lot of women have said the Gerber pumps don’t work properly.

I got one from my WIC office. I’m not sure the type but they lend them to you for free. It’s blue and it’s the best one I’ve ever used, and I’ve breastfed three!!! Also, if the baby has troubles latching you can also buy a Nipple Sheild, Target sells them and so do Babies ‘R Us. They are awesome!!! My youngest almost had to quit cause he couldn’t open his mouth wide enough and was loosing too much weight, but a friend bought me one of those and he nursed till over a year, and is now in the 90th percentile for weight! He’s a little chunkey monkey!!!

I use the Medela Pump In Style backpack…it is a double electric pump…it automatically switches from let down to expression phases after 2 mins…it is the best pump ever…it is also expensive…about $300…but worth every penny!!

Medela pump in style advanced is the one I recommend. I love it. I do not recommend buying a chap pump from like walmart.
