How Do You Transition From Breast Feeding To Formula?

Do you slowly replace formula with breast milk? Can you pump breast milk and feed formula like every third bottle all the time or will it cause upset tummy?

With my son I would breast feed for two feedings and then make a bottle of formula for the third, I did that for a few weeks, then switched it to breastfeeding for one feeding, formula for two. eventually i just stopped breastfeeding. If you do it that way, you slow down your milk production gradually and it isn’t as painful

…I’m just along for the ride on this one. I have a two week old and we just started doing this same thing two nights ago. So far, okay

my mom showed me how to do this — I sent my wife away for the afternoon (both times) and when she came back our girls were on th bottle NO PROBLEM-O.
The best bottles BY FAR are the kind where the plastic liner deflates as they drink — there is never any air or suction issues. That is a key part of bottle feeding is to have the best equipment around. The natural shaped nipple is key too. And the nipples can’t be old — you should give them a good strong TUG every time you use them to make sure they are not cracking.
OK so the trick is — wait until baby is pretty hungry. You should hava good routine down after s/he wakes up from naptime — diaper change, change to new sleeper, back rub, play time, warm bath, FOOD! nap.
right? so whereever the FOOD part is, just prolong that a littel extra time, so baby is kind of hungry. then you mix up a bottle of formula, and you make sure you can squirt it out the nipple by pressing the plastic bag with your thumb. Make sure milk is just a bit above room temp.
Now, place the nipple in baby’s mouth, PRESS and remove the nipple. Stroke top of baby’s head from forehad to back of head to make her swallow. (stroke top of head ALWAYS makes baby swallow when there is stuff in mouth). Baby will swallow. mmmmm feels good! says baby
do it again. after a few of these, leave nipple in and stroke head. Baby will drink.
Might have to play a little more to get baby distracted, then do it again. And don’t forget to “change sides” when half done with bottle, so baby knows she is half done
    good luck
