I’ve developed a bladder infection since giving birth 8 days ago and have been prescribed amoxicillin 500 MG 3 tablets/day. The doctor and pharmacist both said it is safe to take while breastfeeding but I was hoping to hear a response from someone who has the Medications and Mother’s Milk book? Thanks!!

Amoxicillin
As per WHO and AAP: Amoxicillin is considered compatible while breastfeeding. This medication does pass through breastmilk, although concentration is too low to be clinically significant.
I would caution if mom or baby has any penicillin allergies as it is part of this family of antibiotics. There could theoretically be a risk for allergic sensitization to penicillins in the future.
Amoxicillin is a good choice for your infection while breastfeeding.

I was prescribed amoxocillin when I was breastfeeding my four month old to treat mastitis. I don’t have the book you’re specifically asking about, but I did take that med while breastfeeding.

it is ok. I just finished taking the same thing and I am breastfeeding a 9 month old.
Congrats on your new baby! Great job with the breastfeeding too
