Looking into getting a breast pump as I am expecting in 4 weeks now and plan to breast feed, however there are several different brands and types and just wondered what everyone used themselves and their opinions, thanks
What Breast Pump Did You Use While Breast Feeding? ?

I never used one at all. I didn’t go back to work when my daughter was infant, so had no need to pump. (The rare times I needed to leave a bottle, I hand expressed. I did the same when I started cereal and needed milk to mix with it.)
If you will not be returning to work, you really don’t *need* a pump, though you may of course opt to buy one.

I urge you to use a high volume industrial pump. There is one for every budget and you can find them at any hardware store. I do have to tell you that you might feel a little sore and exhausted after the milking procedure, but it’s efficient, saves you a lot of time and energy, and the motor oil that little machine runs on gives the milk a certain flavour which your baby might really enjoy.

I invested $150 in the Ameda Purely Yours and I’m really satisfied with it. I got it online from ameda.com. I was against getting a used pump thinking there was no way the tubing could be sanitized properly; however, now I see that really the milk just goes straight from the nipple through a large flange and into the bottle/container so it is easily sanitized. So if I could do it all over again I would have gotten a new or used one on Ebay and if it was used maybe ordered new parts/accessories or just boiled the parts to sanitize them. But I really like the Ameda purely yours and the lactation nurse at the hospital told me it’s one of the best and I got a great deal online.

Defintely invest in the Medela electric pump. I skipped this and regret it now…I wanted to breastfeed but was uncertain about it so I got a handheld pump. Big mistake…when I couldn’t produce enough milk initially, I didn’t have the electric pump to rely on helping me out and now I have to formula feed. I’m totally okay with it, but a little sad because I really wanted to breastfeed. Good luck!

Well, I can tell you which ones NOT to get! My first breast pump was an Even Flo dual hand held electric pump. The motor crapped out in the first month. I have since upgraded to the Platex Embrace, but most of the money you pay is for the bag that carries it. It is much better than the Even Flo, but I’m still not impressed by it.
I too have heard that the Medela In Style is the best, I just couldn’t afford it.

The Pump in Style by Medela.
Do not buy a used breast pump. (You can use the rental ones because those are different motors and parts) The milk can contaminate the parts. A LLL leader told me that!!

I bought a Lactina on eBay, and I was very happy with it. I didn’t go bback to work, but I pumped in order to donate to the local milk bank.

I use a Medela Pump In Style and I love it.
It’s the most highly recommended pump there is.
I got one practically brand new on ebay for half the price.

Medela Pump in Style. Used it through 2 babies, then passed it on. It’s worth the $$ if you are going back to work.

Medela Pump in Style. I’ve been using it for two months now and so far it has been great.
