I use the Medela Pump In Style Advanced and it works great. It has been on sale at drugstore.com lately ($70 less than what I paid for it!) It is expensive, but still cheaper than formula, so if you plan to pump a lot, it is worth it.
Many people swear by Medela — Pump in Style or a rented Medela Hospital Grade (Lactina or, better, Symphony). I’ve used both a Pump in Style Advanced and a Symphony, and the Symphony is better hands down. The down side is you have to rent them unless you want to pay a fortune. The PIS is close, though. Other people like the Ameda pump line better. I think they are probably the same fromt he newsgroups of pump moms I am on. There are mixed reviews on the Avent Isis Duo which is new but pricey.
In general, you need to decide how often you pump and how important a reliable pump is for you. If you only pump now and then, you might even consider the Avent Isis hand held manual pump, which is a GREAT little pump. But if you pump a lot, you need a DOUBLE electric pump, hospital grade.
I am renting a Lactina breast pump for $40 a month, hospital grade. It really does work well… you can typically rent good pumps from hospitals. It’s well worth it if you will primarily be pumping.
